Personal grievances

A personal grievance is an action that you can take against a current or former employer, telling them that you have an employment issue that needs to be resolved.

If you have not raised your personal grievance within the time limit, you can ask your employer if they will let you raise the personal grievance late. If they say no, then you can apply to the Employment Relations Authority for permission to raise the personal grievance late.

If you don’t raise the personal grievance in time, you still have up to 6 years to raise a claim for any pay that your employer owes you, but you will not be able to seek compensation for emotional distress and hurt because you were unfairly dismissed.
